Genesee County is the longest run we make from Royal Oak, and the ground changes as you cross it. South around Goodrich in Atlas Township the land is hilly and wooded, with hunting parcels, old pasture and hedgerows that have been left to fill in. Toward Fenton and Linden the kettle lakes begin, and the acreage there runs down to the shore. Through the middle, Grand Blanc and Davison have farm sections that became subdivisions, with outlots and pond banks nobody mows. Flushing, to the northwest, has low fields along the Flint River.

Forestry mulching fits every one of those. The head on our high-flow tracked skid steer grinds brush, saplings and small trees up to roughly 6-8 inches at the stem, takes larger trees in pieces, and leaves a chip layer typically 2-4 inches deep over the ground it came from. Buckthorn, autumn olive, box elder, willow and grapevine all go in the same pass. The forestry mulching page explains the method, and the Genesee County page lists the other jobs we take on in Genesee County. If what you own is one wooded lot or a split for a house, the lot clearing in Genesee County page is the better place to start.

We are 55 to 75 minutes from Royal Oak, and the travel is rolled into one written project price, quoted from photos or a walk-through. Send the address and a few photos of the growth through the quote form, or call. Calls are answered 8 AM to 8 PM, seven days a week, and every form and text gets a reply within one business day.

What we clear

  • Hilly hunting ground toward Goodrich, with the saplings and hedgerows that fill in old fields.
  • Lake property at Fenton and Linden, where buckthorn, box elder and grapevine crowd the stretch from cottage to shore.
  • Overgrown back acres behind homes in Grand Blanc, Davison and Richfield Township.
  • Subdivision outlots, retention pond banks and the creek corridors that run between neighborhoods.
  • Idle pasture and hedgerows taken over by autumn olive and multiflora rose.
  • Willow and cottonwood thickets on the low ground along the Flint River in Flushing.

What you get

  • Brush, saplings and small trees ground to a chip layer where they stood, with no brush piles to deal with afterward.
  • Slopes and banks held together by the roots and the chips, because the tracks cross the ground without cutting it up.
  • Every keeper tree taped on the walk-through and worked around.
  • One written price for the whole parcel, travel included.

Where Forestry Mulching Comes Up in Genesee County

The acreage jobs we get called about most in this county.

Hunting ground around Goodrich and Atlas Township

Atlas Township is hilly and wooded, and the old fields and hedgerows between woodlots fill with autumn olive and hawthorn. We grind the hedgerows back to the line, open lanes and plot ground, and finish in late summer so the parcel has time to settle before the season. Hunting land clearing →

Lake property at Fenton and Linden

Around Lobdell Lake and the smaller kettle lakes nearby, the brush runs from the back yard to the water. We walk the bank first, keep the shade trees you point out, and leave chips and roots in place to hold the soil. Lakefront clearing →

Outlots and pond banks in Grand Blanc

Outlots, retention ponds and the creek corridors between Grand Blanc neighborhoods put up buckthorn and Callery pear every season. We grind them to a surface you can mow, work each bank from firm ground, and quote the whole property as one job. HOA and retention pond clearing →

Back acres and old pasture around Davison

East of Flint, Davison and Richfield Township still hold hobby farms and long back acres. Paddocks that stopped being grazed go to autumn olive and multiflora rose, and we open the fence lines for new wire or board. If the field is mostly grass, the mulching vs brush hogging guide shows when a brush hog alone is enough. Pasture reclamation →

How the Job Goes

01

Send photos and the address

A few photos or a phone video taken from the edge of the acreage is enough to price most parcels. Larger or hillier ground we walk with you.

02

Walk it and tape the keepers

We tape the trees that stay and mark wellheads, stakes and the gate the tracks should use. Slopes and banks are walked on foot before the machine moves.

03

Grind it in sections

The head works the parcel in passes, priority ground first. Low ground waits for a dry stretch or frozen ground.

04

Follow up on the regrowth

Buckthorn and autumn olive resprout from the roots. A return pass or a yearly mow in the first seasons keeps them from rebuilding.

When to do it

Hunting ground goes best from late summer into early fall, so the lanes and plots have time to settle before the season. The low ground along the Flint River and the marl pockets near Linden are worked on frozen ground or in a dry stretch. Lake banks and hilly parcels are easiest to read once the leaves are down, when property lines and keeper trees stand out.

How it is priced

By the project: how many acres, how dense the growth is, how steep the ground runs and how the machine gets in. You get one written project price, travel included, from photos or a walk-through. The pricing guide covers what moves the number.

Forestry Mulching Questions We Hear in Genesee County

How much acreage makes forestry mulching worth the drive to Genesee County?

Any parcel where the growth is brush, saplings and small trees, from a few back acres to a large wooded holding. Each one is priced as a single project with the travel inside it, so a small job is quoted the same way a big one is.

Can you work the hilly ground around Goodrich?

Yes. The tracks hold on a grade, and we walk each slope on foot first to decide the way up and the way back out. Hedgerows, old fields and lanes on the same parcel can be done in the same visit.

Will buckthorn and autumn olive grow back after mulching?

Some of it resprouts from the roots the head leaves in the ground. A return pass or a yearly mow in the first seasons keeps the sprouts from rebuilding, and we can put the parcel on a schedule and price the season.

What happens with the low ground along the Flint River in Flushing?

Willow and cottonwood on bottomland are best taken on frozen ground, when the tracks ride the frost and leave the field smooth. A dry stretch in summer can also work, and we pick the window when we see the photos.

Can you clear pond banks and outlots inside a Grand Blanc subdivision?

Yes. Each bank is walked first so the machine stays on firm ground, and the growth is ground to chips you can mow over. A property with outlots, a pond and a creek edge is quoted as one job.
