St. Clair County is the eastern end of our range, and it splits into three kinds of ground. The west, around Capac, Mussey, Berlin and Riley, is flat farm country laced with hedgerows and ditches. The north, through Clyde, Kenockee, Brockway, Grant and Greenwood, climbs into oak and beech woods beside the Black River and Mill Creek. Scattered between them are old farmsteads and forty-acre hunting parcels where the pasture and the windbreak have gone back to brush.

Forestry mulching fits all three. The head on our tracked skid steer grinds brush and saplings in place, up to roughly 6-8 inches at the stem, with larger trees in pieces, and the chips, typically 2-4 inches deep, stay on the ground as cover. In the woods that brings honeysuckle and grapevine out from under the canopy. On the farm ground it takes hawthorn, autumn olive and ditch-side willow in the same pass. The forestry mulching page lays out the method, and the St. Clair County page covers the other work we do in the county.

St. Clair County is 50 to 70 minutes from our base in Royal Oak, depending on the township, and the drive is built into one written project price. To get a price, send us the address and a few pictures through the quote form, or call. Calls are answered 8 AM to 8 PM, seven days a week, and every form and text gets a reply within one business day.

What we clear

  • Hawthorn and autumn olive that have taken over old pasture.
  • Honeysuckle and grapevine tangled under oak and beech woods.
  • Willow, dogwood and cottonwood in low corners, along field ditches and around pond edges.
  • Cherry and box elder saplings crowding woods roads and old two-tracks.
  • A fallen windbreak and the fence rows around an old farmstead.
  • Tangled corners where two fence rows meet on the flat farm sections.

What you get

  • A reopened trail or woods road with chips underfoot instead of a brush stack beside it.
  • Farm corners, ditch banks and fence rows opened up with the soil left intact under the chips.
  • A parcel you can read again: boundaries, buildings and open ground in plain view.
  • One written price, with the trip from Royal Oak included.

Where Forestry Mulching Comes Up in St. Clair County

What St. Clair County landowners send us photos of most.

Forty-acre hunting parcels around Clyde and Kenockee

Stand approaches, access trails and long shooting lanes are cut low and left under chips that stay quiet to walk. Flag your stands and trail cameras and we work around them, and ground for a plot can be opened on the same trip. Trail cutting →

Old farmsteads and fallen windbreaks

Fence rows, toppled windbreaks and the brush pressed against old outbuildings are ground where they lie, so you can see across the place again. Once the fields around it are open, the brush hogging in St. Clair County page explains how a yearly cut keeps them that way. Brush removal →

Wet clay corners and ditch banks

Willow, dogwood and cottonwood take every low spot on the lake-plain clay in the south and east. We work them on frozen or dry ground so the tracks stay on top, and the chips protect the bank afterward. Lakefront clearing →

Wooded lots near Wadhams, Kimball and Wales

New houses are going up along the freeway corridor, and a wooded lot left alone closes up from the road to the back line. Mulching opens it for the surveyor and the builder, and the new home site and lot clearing page and the guide to clearing a lot for a new house cover the rest of the order of work. How the Job Goes

01

Send pictures from the road and the back line

For a lot or a farmstead, a few photos from the front and from the far end tell us most of what we need. A forty-acre parcel we walk with you.

02

Pick the dry window

Hills, woodlots and field edges go in any season. Wet clay corners wait for frozen ground or a dry stretch of late summer, and we book them that way.

03

Flag stands, stakes and keepers

Mark stand locations, trail cameras, survey stakes and any tree you want to keep. Everything flagged gets worked around.

04

Grind it and check the edges

The head reduces the stems to chips, and we walk the cleared ground with you before we pack up.

When to do it

On the clay in the south and east, low spots and drain banks are done on frozen ground or in the driest weeks of late summer. The hills and woods up north can be mulched in any season, and leaf-off is the best time to see a boundary line. Hunting parcels do best when the work starts in late summer, so it has settled before opening day.

How it is priced

Each job is a written project price built from photos or a walk-through: how thick the growth is, how large the stems are, how the machine gets in, and the drive from Royal Oak. A hunting forty and a farmstead corner each get their own number, with travel inside it. The pricing guide shows what moves a quote up or down.

Forestry Mulching Questions We Hear in St. Clair County

Is a forty-acre hunting parcel a normal job in St. Clair County?

Yes. A forty with trails, lanes and a plot is a regular job, especially around Clyde and Kenockee. The price covers the whole parcel and the drive, and we work around any stand or camera you flag.

What do I do about clay ground that stays soft in spring?

Plan the soft corners for frozen ground or a dry spell later in summer, when the tracks ride on top instead of cutting in. The rest of the property does not have to wait, because we can start on the firmer ground in any season.

Will the willow and cottonwood along my ditch grow back?

Both resprout from the stump, so a cleared bank needs a look each summer. Cut anything that sprouts while it is small, and the chip layer holds the soil in place in the meantime.

How much of an old farmstead can be opened in one visit?

Fence rows, the fallen windbreak and the brush around the barn and house are all within reach of a tracked machine, so most farmsteads are a single visit. We take it slowly near buildings, with you showing us what stays.

Which parts of St. Clair County do you reach?

All of it, from Capac and Emmett in the west to Yale, Brockway and Grant in the north, and down to Algonac and Port Huron on the river. Travel is already inside the written price.
