Land Clearing & Forestry Mulching in Genesee County, Michigan

Genesee County is the farthest county we work, fifty-five to seventy-five minutes north of Royal Oak up US-23 and I-75, and it splits into a few distinct pieces. Fenton and Linden sit in the lake-and-kettle country that spills north out of Oakland County, the same glacial hills that give Holly and Groveland Township their lakes a few miles south. Grand Blanc and Davison are built-out suburbs on the south and east side of Flint, with subdivisions laid over what used to be farm sections. Flushing sits in the Flint River valley to the northwest, and Goodrich and the rest of Atlas Township are hilly hunting and horse country on the Lapeer and Oakland county lines to the south. Each of these communities keeps its own character: lake cottages on one side of the county, built-out subdivisions in the middle, and hilly hunting ground on the other, with the city of Flint sitting in the middle of all of it.

The overgrowth follows the same lines. Lake cottage lots around Fenton, Linden and Lobdell Lake grow buckthorn, box elder and wild grape down to the water, the way any Southeast Michigan lake lot does. Around Grand Blanc and Davison, the brush shows up in subdivision outlots, retention pond banks and the creek corridors that drain them, and a corridor like Thread Creek through Grand Blanc carries the same buckthorn and Callery pear that any built-out drainage way grows once nobody is cutting it back. Flushing’s fields along the Flint River flood most springs, and the low ground grows willow and cottonwood too thick for a mower. South toward Goodrich and Atlas Township the ground turns hilly and wooded, and old pasture and hedgerows go to autumn olive and hawthorn just like the Oakland and Lapeer county line a few miles over, and the low, marl-bottomed ground around Linden stays wet enough that cattail and willow move in before anything else does.
