Forestry Mulching in Oakland County, Michigan
Shoreline thickets, grown-in back yards and big wooded parcels, ground to a chip layer from the southern suburbs up through Orion, Holly and Oxford.
Oakland County changes character as you drive north. In the southern suburbs the work is mostly back yards in Troy and Rochester Hills that have grown shut, plus leftover parcels and outlots around Novi, Wixom and Auburn Hills. Past Clarkston and Milford the ground rises into gravel hills, kettle lakes and big wooded lots in Oxford, Addison, Brandon, Springfield, Holly, Highland and White Lake. Forestry mulching fits almost all of it, because the head takes brush and small trees down in place and leaves the roots holding the soil.
We run a high-flow tracked skid steer with a FECON forestry mulching head. It grinds brush, saplings and trees up to roughly 6-8 inches at the stem into chips on the spot, and larger trees come down in pieces. A brush hog head runs on the same machine for open ground. If the land is meant for a house, the lot clearing in Oakland County page covers how a lot gets opened up, and the forestry mulching page explains the method in full.
Oakland County is 20 to 50 minutes from our base in Royal Oak, so most of it is a short drive, and that drive is built into one written project price. Send photos of the growth and the address through the quote form, or call. Calls are answered 8 AM to 8 PM, seven days a week, and every form and text gets a reply within one business day.
What we clear
- Buckthorn, honeysuckle and wild grape walling in the water on lake lots.
- Back yards in Troy and Rochester Hills that have closed up behind the fence line.
- Autumn olive, hawthorn and sumac on old pasture across the sandy northern hills.
- Scrub pine in abandoned Christmas-tree plantings around Holly, Groveland and Springfield.
- Cherry and sassafras saplings filling in under oak and hickory uplands.
- Dogwood and willow thickets on the low ground between the hills.
What you get
- Brush and small trees ground to a chip layer, typically 2-4 inches, over roots that stay in the soil.
- Shade trees and keepers taped on the walk-through and worked around.
- Ground you can walk, mow or stake the day we finish, with the chips spread where the brush stood.
- One written project price, travel included, set from your photos or a walk-through.
Where Forestry Mulching Comes Up in Oakland County
The Oakland County jobs that come up most, from lake lots in the middle of the county to the north end.
Lake lots in Orion, White Lake, Independence and Waterford
The growth that blocks the water view is usually buckthorn, honeysuckle and grapevine on the bank. We cut it to a chip layer that holds the slope and keep the shade trees you point out. The way down to the shore is planned on the walk-through so the lawn stays whole. Lakefront clearing →
Grown-in back yards in Troy and Rochester Hills
A quarter-acre lot behind an older subdivision can close up over a decade. A tracked machine fits a standard gate, so the chips stay in your yard and nothing gets dragged through the side yard. Brush removal →
Old pasture and tree plantings in Highland, Rose, Addison, Holly and Springfield
Horse paddocks and hay ground that sat a few seasons come up in autumn olive and multiflora rose, and the old Christmas-tree rows have turned to scrub pine. We take both back to open ground and clear the fence lines for new rail or a mower. Pasture reclamation →
Wooded parcels around Oxford, Brandon and Holly
These are the lots getting houses and pole barns on gravel roads, and the forties backing onto public land that hunters want opened up. If you are weighing a mulcher against an excavator, the mulching vs excavator clearing guide compares them. New home site clearing →
How the Job Goes
Photos of the ground and the way in
Send a handful of photos or a short video, with a note on where the machine would enter. Large parcels get a walk-through.
Tape the keepers
Oaks, shade trees and anything close to the shore are marked before we start. They stay, and the head works around them.
Grind in sections
We take the densest growth first and the edges after, laying chips where the brush stood. Lake banks go slowly so the mulch lands on the slope.
Walk it with you
We go over the finished ground together and point out the stems most likely to sprout back.
When to do it
Lake banks and the low ground between the hills are best done on frozen soil or in the dry weeks of late summer. Leaf-off winter makes property lines and keeper trees easy to see, which suits the big north-end parcels. Hunting land is cleared from August into fall, ahead of the season, and lots headed for spring construction go on the calendar in late winter.
How it is priced
One project price, built from the acreage, how thick the growth is, the slope, how the machine gets in and the 20 to 50 minute drive. The number is set before work starts. The pricing guide walks through what moves it.

Forestry Mulching Questions We Hear in Oakland County
Can the mulcher get into a back yard in Troy or Rochester Hills?
A tracked skid steer fits through a standard gate and crosses a lawn without cutting ruts. Quarter-acre back yards and forty-acre parcels are both priced as one project, so send photos of the gate and the fence line and we will tell you how it gets in.
Can you clear a lake lot and leave the bank in place?
Yes. The tracks spread the weight, and the chips stay on the slope to hold the soil while grass fills back in. We walk the bank with you, mark the shade trees and plan the way down before the machine starts.
How big a tree can the head take?
Brush, saplings and trees up to roughly 6-8 inches at the stem go in one pass. Larger trees come down in pieces, and we point each one out on the walk-through so nothing about them is a surprise.
What grows back, and how do we keep it down?
Buckthorn, autumn olive and honeysuckle resprout from the roots left in the ground. A second light pass the following season keeps them from coming back thick, and that follow-up can be booked with the first visit.
How do you handle the wet ground between the hills?
Low corners are booked for frozen months or the dry weeks of late summer. On firm ground the tracks leave little mark, and the chips go down as a cushion for the crossing.
