Brush Hogging & Field Mowing in Macomb County, Michigan
Hay ground and idle fields from Romeo and Armada down to Ray and Richmond, plus ditch banks and outlots in the south end, mowed back to open grass.
Macomb County farm ground is flat clay-loam laid out in fields by ditches, and across Ray, Armada, Richmond and Lenox the weeds rarely start in the middle of a field. They build along the ditch banks and the field edges first. Around Romeo and Bruce Township the last hills carry horse farms and old orchard blocks, and farm sections in Washington, Bruce and Macomb townships keep being split off for houses. A split that sits a season behind a new house turns to thistle, goldenrod and briars quickly.
A brush hog is the right tool while the growth is grass, weeds, briars and brush up to about 3 inches thick. We run a rotary cutter on a high-flow tracked skid steer, the same machine that carries our FECON mulching head, so the open middle of a field is mowed and the box elder and mulberry along its edges are ground back on the same visit. The brush hogging page explains how a job runs, and the Macomb County page covers the heavier clearing we do in the county.
Most of Macomb County is 35 to 55 minutes from our base in Royal Oak, and that drive is folded into one written project price. Photos of the field and an address are enough to start, so send them on the quote form, or call. Calls are answered 8 AM to 8 PM, seven days a week, and every form and text gets a reply within one business day.

Where Brush Hogging Comes Up in Macomb County
The jobs we are called for most often in Macomb County.
Hay ground and idle fields toward Armada and Richmond
Hay fields in the farm townships that stop getting cut fill with goldenrod and briars within two seasons, and the wet clay corners go first. One pass takes the field back to a stubble you can bale or graze, and the fence rows beside it are opened while the machine is on site. Pasture reclamation →
Ditch banks and field edges
The line between two fields is where box elder, mulberry and honeysuckle get their start, and where tall weeds seed back across the cut ground. We cut the banks and the strip beside them, and once the growth is past mowing size the forestry mulching in Macomb County page covers taking it down to the ground. Fence line clearing →
Horse farms and orchard blocks near Romeo
Paddocks and turnout fields are mowed in sections so the animals always have a place to stand. Old apple and peach rows that are no longer pruned get the grass between them cut so the blocks can be walked again, and the fall brush hogging guide covers what to cut and what to leave before snow. Property maintenance →
Split parcels, outlots and pond banks
A field behind a new house in Washington Township or Bruce Township is cut once and then kept on a schedule so brush never gets a start. In the south end, outlots and retention pond banks are cut to a height a standard mower can hold, on one price for the season. HOA and retention pond clearing →
How the Job Goes
Send the address and the plan
A few phone photos and what you want the ground to do: hay, horses, a tidier line along the road. Larger sections get a walk-through.
Mark the drains and the edges
Culverts, tile outlets, survey pins, a well cap and any young trees to keep. We go over them with you before the machine moves.
Cut it down to grass
The rotary cutter shreds grass, weeds and light growth. Thicker box elder or mulberry along a ditch or fence row goes under the mulching head.
Plan the next pass
Ground cut on a schedule never gets away from you. The dates and the price for the season are agreed before the first pass.
When to do it
The flat townships hold water through spring, so ditch banks and wet clay corners wait for a dry stretch in late summer or for frozen ground. Hay ground is mowed after the last cutting or in fall before snow, horse pasture between turnouts, and outlots and retention areas whenever the ground carries the machine.
How it is priced
We price each job from photos or a walk-through and write the figure down before we start. Acreage, how heavy the growth is, how wet the ground runs and how much ditch bank or field edge there is decide it, and the drive from Royal Oak is already in. The pricing guide breaks down what moves the number.

Brush Hogging Questions We Hear in Macomb County
Can you mow the ditch banks and field edges on my farm section?
Yes. We cut the grass and weeds along the banks and the field edge, and any box elder or mulberry that has come up in the line is ground out with the mulching head on the same visit.
My hay field near Armada sat for two seasons. Is it too far gone?
No. A field that sat for two seasons is mostly tall grass, goldenrod and briars, and the cutter lays that down. The wet clay corners grow back fastest, so we plan those for a dry stretch or frozen ground.
Can you work near horses around Romeo?
Yes. We take one paddock at a time while the horses are in another field, and we walk the gates, wire and water tanks with you first so nothing is missed.
I bought a split parcel in Washington Township with a field out back. Can you mow it?
Yes. Send the address and a photo or two of the field and we quote it as one project, with the drive from Royal Oak already in the figure. We cut around the septic area and anything else you point out.
Can you keep a Macomb County field cut on a schedule?
Yes. Open fields do well with one cut after the last haying or in fall, and ditch edges grow back faster, so they get a second pass in midsummer. The dates and the price for the season are agreed up front.
